Even so, at VazART we have noticed that there is some confusion or doubt about the difference between nursing necklaces and teething necklaces, and in today's blog post we want to help you differentiate them.
As you know, at VazART we have nursing necklaces, which are accessories for moms with benefits for their babies.
What are the differences between the two necklaces?
Nursing Necklaces
VazART® nursing necklaces are made of antibacterial, food-grade silicone, free of BPA and toxic materials, certified by the FDA in the United States and the EU in Europe. With special and safe clasps for your baby. Designed and assembled in Colombia, with high-resistance double nylon cord.
The pieces, available in different shapes and colors, make it attractive for the baby, who interacts with his mom's accessory, achieving greater concentration and longer feeds. It also functions as a sensory stimulus, helping with the baby's motor development. They also help create a bond between mom and baby, and serve to relieve teething discomfort as they are 100% chewable.
Nursing necklaces, as we mentioned earlier in this same blog post, are accessories for mom that have different benefits for her baby. As they are accessories designed for an adult, it is the adult who should wear them. They can be used from gestation and are useful during breastfeeding until our little ones are about 3 years old, when they stop hanging from everything they see.
It is important to know that nursing necklaces have an FDA alert, as risks may arise depending on the use of the accessory. Remember, it is a necklace for mom and not for the baby.
Teething Necklaces
Teething necklaces are made of amber, a fossilized plant resin that apparently, when it comes into contact with the skin, heats up due to the baby's body temperature and releases a substance that is absorbed by the skin and relieves pain, becoming an alternative remedy to help with teething discomfort. To date, there is no scientific evidence to support its healing powers, but it is said that amber has been known for centuries for its soothing properties and healing powers, as it contains succinic acid still used today in medicine to cure different pains.
Teething necklaces are designed for babies to wear, which makes them risky for them. When worn around the baby's neck, hand, and/or ankle, there is a risk of a piece of the necklace detaching, which can lead to a tragedy causing choking and/or strangulation of the baby; the FDA has even issued a warning on the matter.
Please note that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend that babies wear any type of jewelry, necklaces, or pendants due to the choking hazard they pose. Choking is the leading cause of death in children under one year of age and among the top five causes of death in children between one and four years of age.
